SOCO All-Electric Tube Benders Drive Internal and External Upgrades for India’s Manufacturing Sector
As India’s manufacturing sector accelerates its transition toward smart upgrades, SOCO, in partnership with its local distributors of 30 to 40 years, has leveraged its deep-rooted expertise to successfully enter the Tier 1 supply chains of both local and multinational giants. While early offerings focused on smaller, manual models, SOCO’s product line has evolved into fully automated processes. These integrate CNC All-Electric Tube Benders with Tube Cutting Machines and Tube End Formers, helping customers transition to high-value manufacturing while achieving their energy-reduction goals.
Joseph Lin, General Manager of SOCO, noted that India’s active promotion of the "Make in India" initiative has intensified competition for local automotive and motorcycle component manufacturers and vehicle brands. To boost global competitiveness, local industries are quickly expanding into high-tech sectors such as smartphones, electric vehicles, aerospace, and semiconductors, which in turn attracts large-scale investments from multinational corporations.
CNC Tube Benders are highly operator-centric industrial machines. By drawing on nearly 40 years of sales and service experience in the Indian market, SOCO not only helps multinational corporations establish factories and purchase equipment but also tailors solutions to India’s unique manufacturing environments and the highly automated production standards demanded by foreign investors.
Through its participation in the exhibition, SOCO aims to strengthen its competitiveness in India and showcase its successful applications worldwide. The company is seeking close collaboration with European, Japanese, and Korean automakers looking to invest in India, combining its automated tube benders with the local supply chain to build customized systems and production lines. This approach allows clients to maintain tight control over local production quality, successfully distinguishing SOCO’s machinery from European and Japanese competitors.
Adapting to Local Operator Habits, Integrating Software and Hardware, and Delivering Dedicated Technical Support
Customizing machinery for the Indian market involves addressing specific challenges, such as voltage fluctuations in the local power grid. To counter this, SOCO’s equipment is equipped with uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems that record all operational parameters prior to a power failure, ensuring a rapid and seamless restart once power is restored. This mature technology has been running successfully in the field, allowing customers to maintain continuous production without disruption.
Lin pointed out that, unlike global industrial automation giants such as Heidenhain or Siemens, SOCO possesses complete in-house development capabilities for its all-electric tube benders, including controllers, CAM software programming, and machining parameter adjustments. Recently, the company introduced an AI-driven "one-click automation" feature. This innovation reduces on-site machine verification times by 60% to 70%, significantly speeding up product changeovers and the time-to-market for new products.
These capabilities allow for seamless integration with a client’s own MES and ERP systems, as well as on-site IoT devices and robotic arms. Utilizing digital twin software, SOCO can simulate the cycle times, actual operational parameters, and potential interference issues of a customer’s working cell and automated production line.
Additionally, because there can be a technical skills gap among first-line operators and maintenance staff in India, some machine models that have run smoothly for years at global Tier 1 factories encountered unexpected issues when first deployed in India. Indian operators often devise "non-standard" workarounds to keep machines running temporarily. However, these quick fixes must eventually be aligned with standard procedures to prevent long-term damage to the machines, highlighting the need to shorten the learning curve and training time for local high-level engineers.
To address this, SOCO and its long-term distributors have developed adaptive maintenance services. The system can restrict unauthorized on-site operations or utilize AI data collection to provide immediate, on-screen troubleshooting guides when an error occurs. This feedback can also be used to establish predictive diagnostics and scheduled parts maintenance services.
All-Electric Tube Benders Improve Quality and Energy Efficiency
In the face of global carbon reduction trends, metalworking companies are often less concerned with the exact amount of electricity a machine saves per hour, and far more focused on eliminating waste. Lin emphasized: "The tubes processed by cutting and bending machines have already undergone multiple cutting and machining steps before entering the machine, consuming significant energy. If a finished product is scrapped, the wasted energy far exceeds the hourly power consumption of the machine itself."
For years, SOCO has focused on minimizing waste throughout the production process. By using multi-tasking machines to complete all processes, the company prevents errors in precision caused by repeated clamping and cutting during line changes. This approach provides customers with top-tier products while eliminating future maintenance difficulties. Additionally, the mechanical design determines the optimal timing for each action during the process, adjusting the motors only when necessary to maximize energy efficiency.
SOCO has maintained long-term partnerships with leading Japanese electromechanical manufacturers, such as Yaskawa and Mitsubishi. By leveraging the unique characteristics of the bending process, the machines achieve identical clamping and bending forces using less energy, eliminating wasted time and power. Even with these energy-saving adjustments, the machines maintain production speeds comparable to peer products in the market. Supported by SOCO's strong customer service and inventory management systems, clients transitioning or upgrading their machinery face no maintenance bottlenecks.
For high-end applications involving complex process integration, all-electric models are essential to ensure stable, controllable performance. Today, these machines meet the energy-saving requirements of most Tier 1 manufacturers, with internal audits showing steady annual improvements in energy efficiency. Thanks to its in-house design capabilities, SOCO ensures high stability and reliability, keeping product quality consistent from the very first piece to the thousandth.
Lin noted that while different models of tube benders may look similar on the outside, they must be finely tuned to meet the specific process requirements of different applications, such as automotive parts, seating, or exhaust pipes. In particular, Tier 1 aerospace manufacturers require sample tubes to undergo extensive trial runs and adjustment tests before a machine is purchased. To support these demands, approximately 18% to 20% of SOCO's employees are dedicated R&D personnel, mastering the design of proprietary mechanical structures and electronic control systems.
At this year's AMTEX, SOCO is showcasing its All-Electric Left and Right Rotary Tube Bender (Left + Right Bending). This machine features zero hydraulics, utilizes 7 to 11 axes of full servo motor control, and incorporates a patented left-and-right rotary mechanism design. It maximizes servo motor performance within a highly compact footprint, offering a bending capacity of up to 50.8 mm in tube diameter. It can perform draw bending, roll bending, and optional punching operations.
Because of its left-and-right bending capability, workpieces that would normally cause interference on standard left- or right-handed machines can be completed in a single setup on this model. This eliminates the need to transfer workpieces to a different machine for subsequent steps, saving energy and preventing errors during production.
This machine series offers a highly comprehensive product line, ranging from small components like bicycle parts to large aerospace structures. Since smaller models are more accessible in terms of pricing, SOCO is displaying a compact model at its AMTEX booth. The company is also using video demonstrations to showcase how these machines integrate automatic loading and unloading, punching, and final product output to attract interested buyers. Interested clients will be invited to view these automated production lines in action at the upcoming Tube & Pipe exhibition in November.
