As India’s manufacturing sector rapidly transitions toward high-end automotive parts, aerospace, and defense, metalworking companies face a growing need for highly stable, premium lubricants and cutting fluids. Making its debut at the AMTEX exhibition in India, Shuohtay Enterprise is showcasing its eco-friendly, carbon-reducing fully synthetic cutting fluids. Beyond supplying top-tier additives, the company is sharing its extensive practical experience in full life-cycle fluid management.

Shifting from Selling Oil to Full Life-Cycle Management

With the dual transitions of ESG and AI reshaping the industry, international manufacturers looking to invest in India’s metalworking upgrade face high time and material costs if they rely on local blenders starting from scratch.

Shuohtay, which began as an oil blender in Taiwan, now offers a wide range of industrial lubricants, rust-preventative greases, and water- and oil-based metalworking fluids. Rather than simply selling products, the company focuses on a "full life-cycle management" approach, embodying its core mission of "Fluid Circulation, Infinite Possibilities". Shuohtay collaborates closely with importing oil brands from Europe and North America, who visit Taiwan regularly to guide R&D and refine formulations. This deep technical exchange has established Shuohtay as a trusted, integrated oil management partner.

Established in 1990 during Taiwan's golden era of industrial development, Shuohtay aims to use the AMTEX exhibition to connect with suitable distributors and enter the Indian market. By condensing nearly 30 years of blending craftsmanship into highly concentrated "additive packages," Shuohtay can export its technology to Indian partners. These local partners can then utilize India’s abundant base oils and labor resources to act as local blenders. This partnership allows the local production of cutting fluids that meet premium Western standards, matching the high-end machining needs of the domestic market while significantly reducing purchasing costs.

Shuohtay points out that India's current manufacturing landscape closely mirrors Taiwan's early industrial development. When Shuohtay expanded from northern to central and southern Taiwan, it encountered hard groundwater, which poses a major challenge to cutting fluid stability. By seeking local collaboration and continuous learning, the company eventually developed customized, fast-response formulas tailored to these challenging conditions.

Tackling Hard Water and Tramp Oil with Premium European Sulfonates

When machining non-ferrous metals or difficult-to-cut materials, sodium petroleum sulfonate is a critical additive component. While India mass-produces this ingredient cheaply, it is often a byproduct of petroleum refining, resulting in inconsistent quality that makes it difficult to blend into stable formulations. This can cause the fluid to emulsify easily, generate excessive foam, or emit pungent odors. In India’s hard-water environments, poor-quality fluids easily undergo oil-water separation, leading to oxidation or a drop in cutting efficiency.

Shuohtay addresses this challenge by utilizing 100% European-imported synthetic sodium petroleum sulfonate. This premium ingredient is manufactured on dedicated production lines—rather than as a byproduct—using advanced synthetic sulfonation of low-sulfur, low-aromatic crude oils, fully complying with EU REACH regulations.

Using micro-emulsification compatibility technology, Shuohtay ensures that the cutting fluid remains perfectly compatible with necessary additives even under harsh machining conditions, guaranteeing consistent rust prevention and lubrication. The formulation also features excellent tramp oil rejection. This prevents slideway oils from mixing into the cutting fluid sump, which typically causes emulsification, increased stickiness, poor rust prevention, oxidation, and cleaning difficulties.

With Shuohtay’s formulation, tramp oils do not emulsify into the fluid; instead, they remain separate and can be easily skimmed off, keeping the cutting fluid clean. This clean performance is crucial for machining aerospace parts and semiconductor molds, serving as a key competitive advantage in India's high-end machining market.

Shuohtay offers customized additive packages tailored to different metals:

  • PBC Rust-Preventative Additive: Specifically developed for ferrous metals like cast iron, carbon steel, and large stainless steel components. It resists hard water up to 500 ppm, inhibits bacterial growth to eliminate odors, and extends fluid service life.
  • • NBC Eco-Friendly Additive: Designed for non-ferrous metals like aluminum alloys used in high-end aerospace components. This boron- and chlorine-free green formulation complies with EU standards, maintains high hard-water resistance over 500 ppm, provides high-pH rust protection, and delivers superior tramp oil rejection to prevent surface oxidation.

By combining top-tier European raw materials with Taiwan’s practical metalworking expertise, Shuohtay helps customers eliminate the hidden costs of downtime, frequent fluid changes, and defective scrap.

Supporting ESG Supply Chain Carbon Reduction

With global supply chains facing strict ESG and EU CBAM regulations, green transition is essential. In Taiwan, Shuohtay has completed its internal ISO 14064-1 greenhouse gas inventory and is evaluating product carbon footprints under ISO 14067. While metalworking itself has low direct emissions, it serves as a critical hidden driver of supply chain carbon footprints.

For Scope 3 emissions in the transport phase, traditional finished imported cutting fluids contain high amounts of water and base oil, generating a substantial maritime carbon footprint. By exporting highly concentrated additive packages for local blending instead of finished oils, Shuohtay reduces shipping weight, volume, and transport-related carbon emissions by more than 60%.

For Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, India's hot climate and unstable power grid often cause conventional cutting fluids to degrade rapidly and produce foul odors. Frequent fluid changes generate massive amounts of waste oil and increase process-related carbon and energy consumption.

Shuohtay's additive packages feature highly concentrated, effective antibacterial agents that vastly extend the fluid's life cycle and prevent odors. Furthermore, its 100% boron- and chlorine-free formulas align with international environmental standards like EU REACH, boosting the competitiveness of local manufacturers exporting to Europe.

Integrating AI and Digital Tools for Smarter Fluid Management

Shuohtay is actively integrating AI to optimize the cutting fluid selection process. By inputting the target workpiece material, cutting tools, machine types, and processing methods, the AI helps clients find the perfect fluid match. Shuohtay's R&D laboratory also utilizes AI to discover new elements that can further enhance cutting fluid formulas.

For example, the booming drone industry frequently processes magnesium-aluminum alloys. In Taiwan, high-purity magnesium alloys (up to 97% purity) were once rare. Conventional cutting fluids oxidize rapidly when processing 97% pure magnesium. Working closely with global brands, Shuohtay successfully developed a specialized cutting fluid that stabilizes the machining of 97% magnesium alloys, ensuring consistent quality and supporting steady business growth for its clients.

In the near future, Shuohtay plans to make fluid management as simple as using a mobile app. Customers will be able to instantly identify the right product series and receive real-time support without time zone delays. In Taiwan, Shuohtay serves as a trusted consultant, with technical experts who often understand machine structures better than the customers' own engineers.

To support Indian manufacturers, Shuohtay is offering a digital "Fluid User Manual" software. This tool helps clients maintain ideal fluid concentration and pH levels to prevent spoilage, and provides guidance on adjusting fluids when machining different metals to maximize productivity.

Avoiding Price Wars through Waste-Reducing Custom Value

For its AMTEX debut, Shuohtay is showcasing products built around its core additive formulas, covering standard ferrous metals like iron, aluminum, and copper, as well as challenging non-ferrous metals like magnesium, titanium, and nickel alloys.

Emphasizing "Fluid Circulation, Infinite Possibilities," the company provides complete custom solutions, including "waste reduction through circulation" services. This approach involves transferring fluids to other machines before they degrade to minimize overall waste, coupled with systematic disposal and recycling practices. Moving forward, Shuohtay plans to study local waste oil regulations and storage conditions in India to implement the most effective recycling solutions.

Since AMTEX is a B2B platform, Shuohtay's goal is to partner with local blending plants before reaching end-users. The company is showcasing fluid samples and sharing specialized SOPs, technical cases, and industry insights. Through these efforts, Shuohtay aims to build mutually beneficial partnerships that balance high performance with green manufacturing.
