As next-generation high-tech manufacturing moves beyond basic processing to address international net-zero carbon goals and raw material inflation, the value of foundry and surface treatment equipment has significantly increased. In recent years, Yaw Sheng Machinery has expanded its focus from manufacturing metal surface treatment machines and turnkey plants to integrating upstream and downstream services through its subsidiaries, Yaw Sheng Environmental Technology and Yaw Sheng Sand Core. Making its debut at the AMTEX exhibition, Yaw Sheng is showcasing its surface treatment sandblasting equipment equipped with an integrated machine status monitoring system, designed to minimize maintenance downtime and maximize operational efficiency for clients.

Building on its established reputation as a leading manufacturer of sandblasting and surface treatment machinery in Taiwan, Yaw Sheng offers clients a comprehensive range of models tailored to specific component sandblasting needs. By integrating services across the supply chain—including metal parts processing, shell core and shell mold casting, post-processing, and iron sand trading—the company delivers a vertical, one-stop engineering solution that helps clients boost capacity while drastically reducing costs.

Recently, Yaw Sheng has seen a steady rise in inquiries from Indian buyers at international trade shows. In addition to working with its established local distributors who sell Taiwanese equipment in India, the company aims to use the exhibition to gain deeper insights into local market dynamics.

Transitioning from Equipment Manufacturing to Tech-Driven Services

This expansion is supported by the Yaw Sheng Group’s early commitment to industrial transition. Through Yaw Sheng Environmental Technology, the group handles surface treatments for various metal and non-metal parts while recycling and reusing waste iron sand. Meanwhile, Yaw Sheng Sand Core assists the industry in designing and manufacturing large-scale mold sand cores and shell mold castings, implementing strict international quality assurance systems that align with global green foundry standards.

According to Yaw Sheng, while Taiwanese manufacturers excel at producing robust hardware, software integration remains an area for growth. For manufacturing companies, training on-site personnel to a baseline proficiency before implementing automation is a straightforward process. The more critical challenge lies in adopting measurement and inspection equipment to perform regular maintenance and timely consumables replacement.

First, operators must ensure consistent sandblasting results; second, they must know precisely when to replace consumables to prevent unexpected downtime or machine damage. Because wear and tear are inevitable during surface treatment, many consumables require regular replacement. However, since many systems still rely on manual loading and unloading, calculating per-run capacity, efficiency, or actual daily output remains difficult. Operators may not notice wear until consumables have degraded into dust, potentially affecting production quality.

The most effective solution is integrating on-machine operations that record daily production data and historical cost records. When a preset threshold is reached or specific values drop too low, the system triggers an alert to prompt immediate parts replacement or consumables replenishment. Even when providing cross-border services in regions like India where direct support can be challenging, Yaw Sheng collaborates with local system integrators (SIs) through its distributors to connect machines to customers’ ERP systems, ensuring timely delivery of consumables.

Differentiating in the Market with Turnkey Plant Solutions

Currently, Yaw Sheng's focus in the Indian market remains on its core strength—automotive manufacturing—while gradually expanding into high-tech sectors like aerospace. This positioning allows Yaw Sheng to offer a competitive alternative to premium European and Japanese machines. Compared to low-cost, mass-produced single-model machinery from mainland China, Yaw Sheng’s advantage lies in its 50 years of accumulated expertise, offering a diverse product portfolio for different workpieces and comprehensive turnkey plant planning. This commitment to quality, application versatility, and superior performance recently helped the company secure major orders from clients in Vietnam.

Yaw Sheng is also actively investing in turnkey line integration to connect the pre- and post-processing stages of sandblasting lines. This eliminates the need for manual transport or forklift handling, accelerating movement between stations and shortening cycle times. A key strength of Yaw Sheng is its flexible automation capability. The engineering team can integrate new systems with a client's existing equipment based on their data, performing precise on-site measurements and layout planning. Working with trusted local distributors from the outset ensures that the layout meets the client's actual workflow requirements, avoiding ineffective communication.

At AMTEX, Yaw Sheng is showcasing scale models of its single machines alongside its optional HMI (Human-Machine Interface), supported by video demonstrations of on-site operations. This approach helps Indian buyers visualize how the machinery runs. The system's ability to connect to ERP software when consumables run low ensures seamless service delivery. If a machine component experiences an anomaly, operators can troubleshoot intuitively. This diagnostic data can also be logged to support future remote maintenance services, helping traditional manufacturers mitigate labor shortages.

Adding Value through Energy-Efficient and Low-Carbon Innovations

While competitiveness once depended solely on machine efficiency and durability, global carbon taxes have shifted the focus toward carbon-reduction as a key value-added advantage. In Taiwan, Yaw Sheng participated in the "Manufacturing Transition Promotion Program" led by the Administration for Digital Industries, implementing comprehensive reforms spanning process electricity, raw material consumption, and carbon inventory management.

Under ISO 14064 standards, Yaw Sheng conducted a thorough carbon footprint audit, identifying high-energy-consuming processes and successfully reducing electricity consumption by over 4,000 kWh per year. Additionally, the company is training internal carbon management specialists to build long-term sustainability capabilities. By introducing 5S management and Karakuri (low-cost automation), Yaw Sheng optimized factory workflows, cutting material handling times in half and boosting inventory accuracy to 85%. The company has also begun planning AIoT monitoring and material recycling systems to drive low-carbon manufacturing—building machines that actively help customers reduce their carbon footprint.

Furthermore, Yaw Sheng’s equipment is highly versatile and capable of processing non-metal and recyclable materials. While the company previously focused less on non-metal materials, it is now actively researching the application of non-metal and eco-friendly resources for consumables.

By utilizing recycled agricultural or mineral waste, such as walnut shells, as blasting media, clients can significantly reduce purchasing costs. This approach makes consumables usage more sustainable and expands the application of sandblasting to non-metal and composite materials.

While sandblasting media is recycled during operation, Yaw Sheng continues to research ways to reduce wear, extend media lifespan, and minimize waste. Simultaneously, the company is improving energy efficiency by incorporating variable-frequency motors into its machinery, and it plans to collaborate with research institutions to further optimize machine performance.
